Located at 623 Main Street East, the Bike Doctor is a traditional bike shop who has been voted Saskatoon’s best since 2005 by Planet S readers. Why? Because they have nine tons of used parts that you can pick through, and 900 new bikes in stock. They service your bike like it’s their own. Bike Doctor staff commute, race, freeride, dirtjump and unicycle. They have experience and love to share.

Contact the Bike Doctor at (306) 664-8555 or bikedoctor@bikedoctor.ca.

Week 4

This week ended in an 8 km run - from the boathouse to the weir and back. All went well until Ollie managed to escape my hold and ran across Spadina after another dog! He missed getting hit by a truck by about 5 feet so needless to say my heart was beating fast and it wasn't from the jogging! The loop from the leash now stays permanently around my wrist while we are out! I managed the 8 km without too many aches and pains but am wondering how in two months I am going to be able to do a half marathon at the Brainfreeze on March 7th organized by Brainsport, let alone the Saskatchewan Marathon on May 30th!

Hot Yoga on 20th supports CF raffle

Hot Yoga on 20th has kindly provided two passes for a week of unlimited yoga classes in Saskatoon’s first dedicated hot yoga studio!

Located at the corner of 20th and Idylwyld, Hot Yoga on 20th is a purpose-built facility that offers a quiet, clean and professional place to practice yoga. Their classes are primarily hatha yoga in a room heated to about 38 degrees Celsius. Classes are suitable for all levels. You can pay per class, or buy one of their packages. Wednesday’s 10 am Karma Class is $5 for everyone, with the proceeds going to charity.

During the month of April, Hot Yoga on 20th will be donating the Wednesday Karma Class proceeds to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Saskatoon chapter) and each person attending the class will have their name entered in the CF raffle!

Week 3

On Sunday I went out for the 6.5 km run according to my 'schedule' but I likely ended up doing just over 5 km. It dawned on me that the distances I have been going so far have been less than what I thought so I was somewhat disappointed to know I haven't been doing as well as I'd hoped by Week 3. To my credit, I did push the kids in the chariot over to a puppet show by Wide Open at the Refinery and back for about 5 km and later in the evening we all went over to a potluck by the University for anther 8 km. Needless to say I was a bit tired on Monday!

The jogging suit that I have been using was kindly donated to me for this training effort by the local CCFF chapter - thanks so much, Bob and Joan!

My training buddy is Ollie - a very enthusiastic, energetic Porti.

Alivia

My little niece - just three months old now - is the precious reason I am running this marathon as a means to raise awareness of CF and also to help fundraise for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Alivia's mom, Elaine, is going to participate in the CCFF Great Strikes Walk - which is also on the same day as the Saskatchewan Marathon.

Here's a picture of Alivia snoozing with her big brother, Camden.

Week 2

Week two has come and gone and seen me on track with 'the schedule' - give or take! The schedule called for a 5 km run on Sunday but instead on Saturday I walk/shuffled/jogged home from the University pushing Finnegan in the chariot in -40oC weather (after having pushed him there). I didn't quite run the whole way home but probably sweated more from all the pushing!!

Week 1 - Ready, Set, Go!

I've starting on my marathon training journey as part of a fundraising effort in honour of my new little niece Alivia (almost three months old now!) and the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I got excited about this idea from our friend Chris in Edmonton who recently ran the NYC Marathon (yeah Chris!)...one thing led to another and I convinced myself that I should train to run the Saskatchewan Marathon on May 30th and as motivation and to give extra purpose to it, I decided to try and help raise funds for the CCFC.

So here I go with week one! Here is my 26 week training schedule which will hopefully get me to the Marathon on May 30th! You can click on the image below to see a larger version.
